While the answer in part depends on birth weight and gestational age (how long the pregnancy was), for a normal full term (9month pregnancy) baby, this is a relatively low weight. A girl or boy at this weight would be below the normal/usual weight for a baby this age. Average birth weight is about 3.5 kg, and babies at this age are expected to gain approximately 20-30 gm (almost 1 oz) per day. As already suggested, the pediatrician should be monitoring the weight and plotting this on the growth chart and noting whether the baby is gaining weight normally.
