I have a 6th grader that is not motivated at all. What can I do to motivate this child to make the most of school?

This child went as far as making everyone think that he could not read. He is in my intervention class and I am pretty sure that he can read above grade level. He is going to fail sixth grade and he has completly given up.

Motivation in children can be tricky! First, it may be suggested that you determine if there are any physical or delayed academic problems that are causing this lack of motivation. Is your son experiencing a change in behavior that is not typical of his usual learning style?
