Q:

How do I get my 7 year old daughter to be more inclusive with friends and stop her "mean girl" behavior?

Examples:

1.  she will only want to play with one girl and say mean things or try to walk away from others that want to join in.
2.  she will say she is being "excluded" when she doesn't want to play what others are playing and throw a tantrum.

I'm worried that all of these types of behavior will drive friends away and she will be know as the "mean girl."

She is a twin and not as "outgoing" as her sister...It's really hard to have play dates with 1 or 2 friends...she always ends up feeling excluded.

What the Expert Says:

Start by reading books to her about friends.  use examples. Don't compare her to her twin, but praise achievement. Reinforce through book-stories how people make and keep friends.
