mom10111 asks:

Do I need to answer why my child was absent from school?

My child was absent yesterday and I received a Voice mail call asking me to call the school to "explain" why my child was absent. I don't feel I "NEED" to answer anything. I think it isn't anyone business why "my child" was absent. I understand them calling to inform us of our child being absent but that's it. What are my rights as a parent? I have heard of parents who took their kids on a family vacation and then being told its illegal to keep a child from school more than 5 days.  I'm considering taking him out and home schooling him. Please help. Thank you.
