Q:

Are my daughter's new outbursts part of being a teen or part of having Aspergers?

My 15 year old daughter was diagnosed with aspergers when she was 10, up til now she has had no problems with temper outburst. But in the last few weeks she has had quit a few, not only with me but with her teacher and her step dad. I wanted to know if this is just a change because she is a teenager or if her aspergers is becoming more dominant?

What the Expert Says:

Like any teen, she needs a good diet and pleanty of sleep; however, mood changes at 15 can sometimes be physiologic or growth related, but are more like related to friends and school.  Have you asked her why she has shown these changes?  Some kids with Asperger's Syndrome can relate their feelings quite well but may need help in negotiating friend and social situations.  Talk with her guidance counselor or teachers and see what is going on out of the home.  Finally, speak with her physician for other suggestions.
