You'll probably have to call the school or the school district office (you can find contact information on SchoolFinder which is linked below) to find out proof-of-residence requirements. Most schools require that you show at least two documents that prove you're a resident of the neighborhood assigned to that school (utility bills or a mortgage or rental agreement). Since you may not have that kind of documentation since you're staying with a friend right now, the best thing is probably to ask the school how they handle temporary situations like that. They may ask your friend to write a letter to confirm that you're living there.
