What the Expert Says:

Hello!   I'm assuming that your daughter is in secondary school.  You should have received prior notice about her problems before a school would recommend retention.  Meet with her teacher to see if there's anything she could do to make up any work, then meet with a counselor or administrator to see what other issues influence this recommendation for keeping her back a year.  Tutoring could improve her skills. Holding a student back is a serious move.
Good luck!

It would be unlikely that your daughter would be retained because she did not pass math. I recommend talking to the counselor about tutoring or after school remediation that will help your daughter to master math at her grade level.
