How to find friends for my son with similar interest

I am single mom with a single child. He is 9 and a half and going to 4th. He is very good in music and a top performer in his class. He likes to play sports that involve rules (soccer, basket ball, tennis etc) and some recess games as well. But he is not too much into video games that involves very fine motor skills like Mario bros etc or in adventour sports like skate boarding etc., he is also not into very tough contact games like wrestling, etc., So, i don't see him do any kind of fighting games with his friends. I see his friends punching him, nudging him etc and he will jsut ask them to stop and won't play rough with him. He doesn't have a male role model at home. I don't have  many friends either. But he is extremely talented in music and none of his friends are in that level. I am sure he will related to boys who are in music like him but i don't know how to identify them. I feel he is ok being himself. I don't know what to do and how to find playdates that have similar interest. How much should i get involved? How to make his friends meet a middle point on what they want to do.
