High school Spanish- behavioral management strategies for a large class of talkative students.

I teach a class of 9th/10th grade Spanish students.  It is a large class of 24 students.  I have a problem with students talking and visiting when I'm trying to instruct.  Can anyone please tell me:  what is your most successful behavioral strategy for this scenario?  There are many "lion" type personalities which I have separated.  Talking is the biggest problem by far.
Any advise, techniques, and successful systems you have tried would be greatly appreciated.
