What the Expert Says:

There are many social situations where a child can become the victim of bullying. Here are some things that a parent and child can do so that they don't become a victim of bullying.
1. Work on developing strong healthy relationships. Bullies often target those individuals who tend to be a lone.
2. Parents talk with your children. Ask them about school and other activities that they are involved with. Know who there friends are. Ask your child how they are feeling about different situations. Talking with your child will help open the lines of communications between everyone.
3. Take a solution-focused approach if your child indicates he/she has been a bullying target. Brainstorm possible solutions and consider the pros and cons of each option and share them with your child.
4. Become active at your child's school. Get to know the teachers and administration.
