Can parents in North Carolina hold their child back a year from beginning kindergarten if they simply do not believe the child is ready? The child's birthday is July 4.

Hi JamieLackey,
   I'm sorry to hear that your child isn't feeling prepared! To my knowledge its legal for a parent to decide to enroll their child a year later into kindergarten, however make sure you consider other options as well.
 Research has shown late starts or "red shirting"  can have mixed results in the short and long term on children. Here's a couple great articles on red shirting and ways to assess your child's kindergarten readiness to help you with your decision:
