my son cant remember things, how can I help him?

My 8 year old son has been in speech therapy and many extra learning classes since he has been 5. he is no were close to his grade level. My sons Dr just diagnosed him with ADD. but I'm not 100 percent convinced that's what it is. He has a hard time with memory. He forgets a the simplest thing, this isn't one of those cases were he is just choosing to not know it. He try so hard in school and gets so frustrated because he know that he should know it, I have no idea what to do next
