pbates67 asks:

Staying in school past age 18

I have a 19 year old son with autism. He is currently on a diploma track and is passing but with many accommodations.  He performs well below the average for his age on standardized tests and got an 11 on his ACT so he clearly does not grasp the curriculum. He does not have the self care skills to stay home alone and is not mature enough to go to work after he graduates. I have been trying to convince his school that this is not the correct course for him but so far they are not budging. They are saying if he has enough credits he will have to graduate this spring. I am in the process of getting him re-evaluated but not sure if this will help us as his IQ might be too high (needs to be below 70 but his will probably be about 80). Any thoughts on what I can do to keep him in school longer?
