I taught my daughter how to read at 3 and she is now on a 6th grade reading level at 6 yrs old. The first thing you want to create is a "Word Wall". Buy some index card and a black marker. Write basic sight words on the index cards and tape them to a wall in his room.  Words like: the, and, he, she, tree, etc. Include your names on the word wall. Everyday, point out the words and your son will remember them. Then you build phonics. p+at=pat. Teach him the sounds the letters make and he'll be able to build the words. Don't forget to read to him atleast 20 minutes a day. Get a level 1 book and read it every day. I hope this helps.
