Hi Momyof4,

There are two ways of solving this problem.  Let's do the common and traditional way first and an unconventional but easy to understand way.

Two fifths of 20 means to multiply (2/5) (20)

(2/5)(20) = (20)(2) / 5 = 8

Answer: 8

Another way of solving this problem is, you know the total "parts" is 5.  So:

20/5 = 4

4 is one part of the whole part 5.

And you want 2 of those parts, so it's 4 + 4 = 8

Again the answer is 8.

Hope this helps!
