How Can I Avoid Struggles With My Child About Going to School?
My 7-year-old son started second grade this year. Every morning he declares that he hates school, and he's not going to go. It’s a struggle for us to get out the door. What can we do?

Kids have many reasons for not wanting to go to school — separation from home and parents, bullies, assignments and grades, or a teacher. Talk with your child — and then perhaps with his teacher — to find out more about what's causing his anxiety and about his behavior at school. A school counselor or psychologist might also be able to help.
