I have reached a specific point, as a general education teacher, in which I feel desperate to figure out what I can do to help my students succeed in school.   Having little control over family situations such as; divorce, lack of parental or family support, and low income I have had to struggle to build a stable connection between home and school environments.  My goal is to help each of my students understand that they have the power to create their own future, despite family environment and issues that are enabling them to become successful. I have spent hours of reading and researching many methods to help me understand that I can make a difference. I am integrating some of these strategies in my classroom this year.  I have already seen positive results, and these results have motivated me to take additional necessary steps such as educating teachers and parents of my strategies.  I have the passion and desire to develop these strategies into greater detailed lessons.  Lack of parental support and learning about family situations this year inspired me to read, research, and apply necessary skills to help my students begin to understand they have the power to become successful.

  • Inspired by students in my third grade class that have little to no motivation to tackle the over-whelming and demanding curriculum in the year of 2008.
