Biome Project
A biome is a large area of the earth that has its own set of conditions and living things. Using books, encyclopedias, and the Internet, you will research a biome that is of interest to you. Here are the biomes from which you may choose:
Tropical Rainforest Taiga (Coniferous Forests)
Project Summary
After researching your biome, you will create a PowerPoint presentation that informs people about your biome. You will include pictures of the landscape, animals, and plants, as well as describe the many features and conditions of your biome. You must include the following items in your project:
- Name of the biome
- Where it can be found in the world (all locations)
- Geography of the area (landforms that affect life in the biome)
- What the climate is like (temperature and rainfall for a typical year)
- What plants and animals are found there (identify at least five of each)
- Are there any endangered species there?
- Human-environment interactions (positive or negative) that affect the biome
- Does conservation affect your biome? How?
- Interesting features and facts about your biome
All of these items will be checked according to the attached rubric on the back of this page.

Biome Project Time Line
Name: _______________
Date project assigned: Thursday, February 9
Date project due: Tuesday, February 14
Check off each bulleted activity as you complete it. If you complete more than outlined for each day, continue through the checklist until all items are checked.

- Write your name and the name of your biome on your notes page.
- Consult Web sites listed on the project assignment page and information found on your notes page. (You should complete at least three areas of your notes page today!)
- Show Ms. Tuttle how much you completed at the end of class.
- Put your notes in your science folder before you leave class.
Day 2
- Get your biome notes from your science folder.
- Continue researching your biome. Complete your notes by the end of the class period.
- Show Ms. Tuttle how much you completed at the end of class.
- Put your notes in your science folder before you leave class.
Day 3
- Get your biome notes from your science folder.
- Log onto your computer using your username and password.
- Open Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Make a title slide that includes the name of your biome and your name.
- Type the information on your notes onto slides. All information should be typed in today! Remember you will have at least one slide per area on your notes page. (This means a minimum of eight slides including your title slide.)
***Today we are inputting information. We will not be choosing slide backgrounds or fonts until all information is typed onto your slides!
- Save your file into your shared folder.
- Show Ms. Tuttle how much you completed at the end of class.
- Put your notes in your science folder before you leave class.
Day 4
- Get your biome notes from your science folder.
- Log onto your computer using your username and password.
- Use Google Image Search or other searches to find at least one picture for each slide. Make sure your picture matches the information on each slide.
- Once you have at least one picture per slide, you can spend the rest of the class choosing your background, adding special effects, and fonts for your text.
- Save your file into your shared folder.
- Drag and drop your finished PowerPoint presentation in the shared folder named ''Tuttle Science.''
- Show Ms. Tuttle your completed project before the end of class.
