For those students who have ardent aspirations of becoming a successful actor or actress, the Oscars are the ultimate accolade within the glamorous and conspicuous world of film.

However, for many school children who dream of rubbing shoulders with A-list celebrities, they first need to have the right mentoring and guidance at the earliest opportunity in order to fine tune raw talent, instil self belief, and prepare them for plenty of hard work ahead.  

Kate Armes, Head of Drama at Roedean Independent School in Brighton, has taught a number of rising Hollywood actresses, including Rebecca Hall (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), as well as Honeysuckle and Perdita Weeks (Foyle’s War and The Tudors).

Every year, Roedean cultivates a healthy crop of potential thespians, with Kate integral to nurturing these students and ultimately sharing her invaluable wealth of experience. Here she shares her tips and insight for producing an Oscar-winning performance in your end of year school play.
