Test Items Based on Sample Coding Guide

Now let’s look at some example addresses to see how you should respond to the test items in Part C. In your test booklet, the test items will be numbered and listed as they are here (although the total number of test items varies from one segment to another). Try matching each of these eight addresses to the correct delivery route (code) in the preceding Coding Guide. Then, check the answers that follow this list of addresses.

  1. 10500 N. 23rd St.
  2. 422 Hartford Blvd.
  3. 125 Point Lookout Loop
  4. 39 Oswago Road
  5. 3456 N. 23rd St.
  6. 900 Harper Blvd.
  7. 57075 Rose St. SW
  8. 28 Oswago Road

The correct answer to Item 1 is C. The address 10500 N. 23rd St. falls in the range “6001–12000 N. 23rd St.” (Delivery Route C).

The correct answer to Item 2 is A. The address 422 Hartford Blvd. falls in the range “300–700 Hartford Blvd.” (Delivery Route A). The correct answer to Item 3 is D. The address 125 Point Lookout Loop is outside the range “150–250 Point Lookout Loop,” which is the only range shown in the Coding Guide for Point Lookout Loop.

The correct answer to Item 4 is B. The address 39 Oswago Road falls in the range “26–40 Oswago Road” (Delivery Route B).

The correct answer to Item 5 is A. The address 3456 N. 23rd St. falls in the range “1800–6000 N. 23rd St.” (Delivery Route A).

The correct answer to Item 6 is D. Harper Blvd. is not one of the streets listed in the Coding Guide. Therefore, any Harper Blvd. address falls outside all the address ranges provided for Delivery Routes A, B, and C.

The correct answer to Item 7 is C. The address 57075 Rose St. SW falls in the range “50000–75000 Rose St. SW” (Delivery Route C).

The correct answer to Item 8 is B. The address 28 Oswago Road falls in the range “26–40 Oswago Road” (Delivery Route B).

Note: Did you notice that Item 6 is a bit different from any of the others? The issue in item 6 is not the number but rather the street name, which does not appear in the Coding Guide. Although this is unusual, you should expect to encounter at least one or two items that give an incorrect street name on Part C of the test. Of course, the correct answer to this type of item is always D.
