This is a school struggling to just survive. Most of the parents are totally uninvolved. Poverty and gang activity are rampant. Teacher turnover is high. Achievement, while encouraged by some of the faculty draws unwanted attention from some the more dangerous students. The best way to survive this school is to keep your head down, avoid getting pregnant or hooked on something, and get the hell out as soon as possible. A really motivated studetn just might make it.....none of his/her friends will.

Houston Hill Junior High School
La'Sha Heard: I was so impressed with this school and the staff, especially the Principal. He seemed to be a highly educated man with a zeal for real people and real lives. We need more men like him to be that great role model for our young men. Thank you
