Blount is an excellent school with a very professional and caring staff. Student test scores and reading levels excel each year. Our parent involvement is very strong and positive. The multi-cultural student body adds even more to the overall educational experience. In addition, our community has a consistent military family influx which brings even more diversity and has created a natural environment of welcoming new faces and families. Though a large school for our area, Blount still operates and feels like a family!

This is our family's third year at Blount, and it has been a positive and rewarding experience. Despite some overcrowding which will be alleviated by the new Wilson Elementary down the road next year, Blount maintains an excellent academic environment along with a nurturing emotional environment. So much of it has to with the staff and parents. Principal Green loves her children and so do the teachers that work for her. The parents are an amazing volunteer resource that help this public school to stand out. I had heard bad things about Alabama public schools when we first moved here--Blount has proved those rumors wrong. If you have committed teachers and parents, you're going to have great kids that will learn.

I am the PTA President for the next 2 years and I tought that this would take up alot of my time. I was wrong. I work a full time job and the commitment of the Board Members makes my job easy. There are only 2 men on the board this year...myself and the Treasurer. The rest (18) are mothers who have jobs also. If we need soemthing done, there is an army of people ready to go. Currently this year we are experiencing a record number of students (927). You would think that the class rooms are crowded...they are not. We are still holding a 17 average student class size. Granted, the school board has brought in portables to accomadate the population, but our teachers have not missed a beat. We still score well above the national average for reading, math and the sciences.
3 years ago when we moved back to the Montgomery area, we knew that we had to be in the Blount School District, so my wife and I did everything we could to make sure that this happened. The positive reputation that our school holds in the community makes it a maginate for incoming families. This explains the high number of students this year. Next year the new elementary two blocks away will open which will help support the population growth to this area of Montgomery. The school brings the families.
