I was a teacher at this center. I'm not going to say how long. I am also going to remain anonymous. I did have plenty of teaching experience, especially with children of this age level. Yet, in a nutshell, I felt as if I was thrown into the deep water, right from the start, being told to sink or swim. It was as if I was told to be a "born" head start teacher.
I had been bitten by some of the children, my fingers were smashed in the door, I had been kicked, punched, spit in the face, and scratched on purpose, until I was bleeding. Then I was told it was my fault. Sorry to vent. It is just that I felt as if I was not given any support, at all. It left a bad taste in my mouth, working with preschool children.
