Phoenix Country Day School Reviews
As a former student, I cannot begin to describe how much I enjoyed my 10 years at PCDS. From the excellent, caring faculty and staff to the bright, talented student body, PCDS has so much to offer. I gained so much more than a diploma, I learned how to carry myself, how to interact effectively with those around me, and how to problem solve. These skills have proved to be far more valuable than anything else I could gained from an elementary and high school education.
PCDS's slogan reads, "An education for life," and in my experience, this phrase could not ring more true. Not only did my class gain valuable life skills, we also had 20 National Merit Semifinalists and had many students attend Ivy League Institutions and many other extremely competitive colleges and universities. Furthermore, my education at PCDS more than adequately prepared me for my college courses. I feel more capable and better equipped at my college than many of my well-qualified peers. College courses, while harder, revealed nothing surprising. I knew how to write papers in the proper way, read effectively, and participate in class discussions.
PCDS has more success, fun, and opportunities than schools more than three times its size. Students can participate in multiple clubs, sports, and productions while still getting a first-class education. Yes, the school isn't perfect, yes the curriculum and workload are challenging, but the experiences gained from attending PCDS far outweigh the problem areas.
If you are looking for a school with a close-knit genuine community, varied and strong extracurricular activities from a championship basketball team to a talent-filled drama production, excellent and rigorous academics, teachers that truly care about their students' success, and students who want to have fun as much as they want to succeed, Phoenix Country Day School is the place for you.
As a proud parent of two PCDS students, and having been so for 12 years (Pre-K to 10th grade), I can say without a doubt that Phoenix Country Day School has provided both my boys with a truly fine education. A dozen years into the process and I believe they would attend on Saturday if given the opportunity. The classes are small, the faculty is highly qualified and sincerely interested in each student's success, and the balance between academics, the arts, music and sports provides a wide variety of enriching opportunities for any student.
PCDS has accomplished a central goal our family had when they began pre-Kindergarten. We wanted our boys to develop a love for learning that would stay with them far beyond their high school education. I can say with all honesty that my boys will always take the lessons they've learned at PCDS and apply them to a lifetime of learning and growing as scholars and as people.
We have found the social opportunities to be more than adequate. Our kids come from a middle class background, and even though most of their classmates come from wealthy families, our boys have never, ever felt out of place. PCDS maintains a healthy and diverse student body (a weakness in the past) from a socio-economic and ethnic standpoint. They remain committed to continue to improve diversity and provide opportunities to serve those less fortunate with wide-ranging community service outreach projects.
I may sound like a shill for PCDS, but I am just a proud parent and satisfied customer of a school that takes its mission seriously and has become very good at delivering what they promise. Anyone in Arizona who desires the absolute best education for their children need look no further.
