School Values or Mission Statement

Provided by
Executive Director Matt Baker
About Metropolitan Arts Institute: Founded in 1998, Metropolitan Arts Institute (Metro Arts) is a tuition-free, college preparatory arts charter school offering grades 7-12. Instilling a lifetime value for the creative process, the school prepares students for entrance into institutions of higher learning or a career in the arts. Metro Arts offers a rigorous integrated academic program, while offering students a culturally diverse curriculum within an environment designed for self discovery. Focusing on interactive partnerships with community arts organizations and practicing professional artists, students receive hands-on, pre-professional experience. Metro Arts has been ranked as an Excelling school by the Arizona Department of Education. Our Philosophy: The goal of Metro Arts is to create an environment where students, faculty and administration are able to elevate the quality and level of performance in all endeavors. The school’s charter was founded on Howard Gardner's model of multiple intelligences, in which the creative process assists in cognitive development and increases academic performance. This holistic approach to growth and learning promotes a way of life that is essential in the 21st century. Academic and Arts Programs: The curriculum for 7th and 8th grade students is structured so they experience all art forms: dance, music, visual arts, and theatre. This enables the student to find their passion and then further hone their skills during high school. Students in grades 9 through 12 are able to select the artistic discipline of their liking. Metro Arts offers a broad academic curriculum, including humanities, mathematics, science and foreign language. Structured to establish connections across disciplines and encourage freedom of purposeful expression, it challenges and supports students as they develop strengths.

Example reviews:

"This school has absolutely changed my son's life! He is a brilliant kid who has a learning disability, and the staff absolutely understands his situation and teaches the way he learns! They are so insightful, understanding and capable, I feel lucky that we are part of that community."

"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
