I think they are trying, really trying...but when you have as many issues as they do...it is an uphill battle. If you judged the school on safety...they get an D-. Kids cross the streets in 15 different direction on two main streets. Parents can walk in from three different entrances without being questioned. There is no enforcement - unless you count the paper they posted saying "Parents: Check in at the office". But the straw that breaks the camels back is the unattended children on the playground prior to the start of school. Gates open at 7am and there is not an adult around until 7:45am. I made a formal complaint and the school sent out a reminder to not drop the children off early...no other changes were made and the issue exists to this day.

I loved the teachers and would give them nothing but A+ for their efforts and extra tutoring time. They are awesome. But the school district needs to understand that parents NEED to be involved and making that more of an OPTION is not working. So if programs can be designed where parents are nudged a bit more, I think this school can be awesome. But as of right now, there is a reason that Eduprize Charter School has over 1000 children on its waiting list. They nudged and got support coming out of their ears!

This means...no more bullies, more one-on-one tutor time during normal class time, better technology in the classrooms, secure building all hours of the day, happier teachers that are not so stressed they lose their patience, and parents keeping the kids in check in the hallways and classroom too. By the way, the restrooms are designed for one...not groups which is safer and much more respectful of their privacy. I would love to see renovations take place in our district schools to include single occupancy restrooms.

The school and district have come a very long way since 2006. Academics are up and discipline is on the decline. Kindergarten and first grades are using the Common Core Standards this school year (2011-2012). Students are very active in sports (grades 6-8). There's tutoring for students who have difficulties with certain concepts.

I think Copper Basin is a great school and the teachers and other staff are supportive to the students.
