About This School
Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. It's like walking into Cheers but of course without the bar. Everyone knows your name! The staff is wonderful and you smile constantly as someone calls your name and says hello. The teachers are wonderful and have always gone above and beyond when taking each child's individual needs into consideration. No child gets left behind because teachers are willing to work longer hours, and give special help when needed not to mention the outstanding job the RTO program does for the kids. We have made many friends and continue to meet wonderful people every year! If you are looking for a school that knows your child by name instead of seeing them as a claim on getting more money this is your school! Education is key and they are always finding new ways to present the curriculum instead of the old boring ways. My child's book report consisted of making a vest he wore to school to present to the class. That makes learning fun and interactive. It's been proven if kids do something actively while learning they will retain more and that is apparent here. They also have a wonderful campus that is almost "Summer Camp Like". This kids get to walk outside when switching classes not to mention all the specials still offered here that have been dropped at so many schools! Music, Spanish, Technology and Art to mention a few! Come check them out you will NOT be dissapointed!
I have had children at TCDS since it opened in 2000. We loved it then and we still love it today. We plan to keep our youngest children there until they graduate from 8th grade.
The teachers are dedicated, caring and kind. The administration is responsive and easy to work with.
My children love the extra classes they get to take - art, technology, physical education, music and Spanish. There are plenty of after school activities, some are sports oriented like basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and football. Other activities include drama club, choir, karate, garden club, Roots and Shoots, National Junior Honor Society, student council, jump rope...the list goes on.
We love the large, outdoor campus - in addition to their classroom, students have access to a covered activity center, playgrounds, a huge grass field, basketball courts and lots of room to walk around.
I've been involved in the Student Parent Association and have been asked - as many parents have - to volunteer for all kinds of school activities: in class volunteering, field trips, special functions, etc.
It's a great school and we can't say enough about it.
I am 13 and go to this school. This was once a great school until the last 2 years. I got bullied the last 2 years. Some of my freinds get bullied alot to. My parents have talked to the principal many times and the principal and the moniters tell me and my freinds that we need to be more understanding of those who are bullying us because they have some problems. I don't like getting punched and picked. My freinds don't like it. The bullies just go to the office for an hour and go back to class and bully again. Nothing gets done to them. They just keep being bullies. I kept getting hit and I finally hit back and I got suspended. I counld'nt stop him from hitting me. I got suspended but the bullies DONT and we have to be understanding. I am going to a different school next year. I am so happy to be going to a different school. 9 of my freinds are all going to different schools for the last year of middle school. My parents and some of my freinds parents are mad at the principle. He changed this school. I would not want anyone to go to this school unless they are bullies. If you don't believe me ask the kids and parents that go to tcds.
