Baldwin Elementary School
Some welcome "Back to School" night from Principal Singleton. We all received nearly an hour long lecture on all the things we did wrong last year and that we were not going to get away with any of it this year. I felt like I was being treated like a five year old with my hand in the cookie jar. Never mind that I or any of the others at the lecture have college degrees.
The topic of the car lane was a focal point. As far as that being the safest way for children to be dropped off and picked up is a very debatable issue. The reality is that twice a day there is a major traffic jam in the neighborhood with intersections blocked, delivery trucks being forced to drive on the wrong side of the streets to get around the mess, and children getting into cars and not being buckled into car seats properly because of the need for the line to keep moving. With somewhere around 500 children at this school, many of whom don't take a bus, it's truly a mess. We will be giving much discussion to the topic of removing our child and relocating to another school, as was being discussed by several parents as we left the lecture.
