About This School

Aveson School of Leaders is located in Altadena, CA and is one of 27 elementary schools in Pasadena Unified School District. It is a charter school that serves students in grades K-5.

Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. See Aveson School of Leaders's test results to learn more about school performance.

A school's Academic Performance Index (API) is a scale that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the school's performance in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The state has set 800 as the API target for all schools to meet.

Aveson School of Leaders had an API growth score of 829 in 2012. California uses the Academic Performance Index (API) to measure annual school performance and year-to-year improvement. Aveson School of Leaders's 2012 base score was 816 and the school did meet its 2012 school-wide growth target.

In 2008, Aveson School of Leaders had 22 students for every full-time equivalent teacher. The California average is 24 students per full-time equivalent teacher.

Aveson School of Leaders Reviews

By , a Parent on

An amazing cooperative community of teachers and parents. We're so grateful to have found it and that our 10 year old son is finally there (it took us 3 years to win the school's admittance  lottery).

Too many good intentions, but with no accountability.  Criticism is ignored, probably in the hope that the problems will disappear.  Possibly the issue is not enough staff to respond to complaints.  Constant requests for parent help - even to the point of asking parents to supervise at lunch times.  They have done very poorly in getting help from the local community, with the result that the PUSD has called public meetings on the problem. There are one or two excellent teachers, but that's true for any school.
