la Ballona Elementary School Reviews
Pricipal is marvelous, 1st grade teachers are extraordinary with exception of Ms. Irene. Unfortunately there are many children who qualify for the free lunch program and the dysfunction they bring from home affects the learning curve of the other children. The teachers rate very high on a Statewide survey and are actually better qualified than their State peers by 5%. The CC School District Administration and demographics of Culver City really hurt the schools and teachers. I personnaly believe the children and teachers deserve better but perform miracles with the tools they are given. As is the case nationwide, the majority of instructors are women, and very poorly remunerated when compared to adjacent cities and other States.. Although the school rated a 5 on a Statewide scale, I believe it is due to the economic background of the students, the excess of ELL students, and the baggage created by the Bush era in No Child Left Behind Act. In addition I feel the Cross-cultural Language and Academic Development) Credential mandated by the Supreme Court hinders the student and the instructor and places an unrealistic burden on both.
