Parkmont Elementary School Reviews
Very good school. Some great teachers and great parent involvment, however the one major problem with Parkmont is the principal, or better yet, the lack of a good principal. Compared to past principals, the current principal is rude, uncaring, and just not a nice person. My children say she doesn't even know their names and she is rude. I feel sorry for the teachers and parents that have to deal with her. Since the current principal took over, many activities have been dropped and school spirit is way down. I never thought one person could destoy a school, but I do believe one has. Lets hope she retires soon!
I am Welsh, from the small historic town of Caernarfon where Charles was invested Prince of Wales in 1969. My brother and I attended Parkmont Elementary School in 1968/69 while my father taught social science at James Logan High in Union City - as an 'exchange' teacher. Parkmont was at the time a modern and exciting experience for me and the contemporary teaching methods were excellent. My class teacher in the fourth grade was Miss Janet Slebos, who, I believe, moved to Chicago the following year. I shall never forget my year at Parkmont where, on reflection, the education and sports experience was brilliant. We travelled every day from Bonner Avenue on the traditional American 'yellow bus' which was great (our driver was Carol). Returning to an old school built in 1858 in damp rainy Wales was less than inspiring. I am now a Local Government Manager in Cheshire, England. Best wishes to Parkmont.
Students learn at home, not from school. Too much parents' participation and the school keeps on asking for more parents' participation. I feel like I (parent) am attending Parkmont school. It is too much. What are the teachers doing there? Also, my kid spent over 3 hours doing homework on a daily basis. Many tests on the same day and the teacher always changed her mind in setting up test dates. My kid is having lots of stress at this school. The teacher for fifth grade (Mrs. Str......) seemed to enjoy giving lots of homework and changing test dates after students came to school and ready for the tests, but no test that date, instead, tests had been changed to a different date.
both my sons attended Parkmont and I am proud to say one is now a lawyer and the other is a manager at Microsoft...Parkmont school gave my sons an outstanding foundation in education
