Granada Hills Charter High School Reviews

By a Parent on

We sent our oldest (Senior '07) and second child (Freshman) there for a year. Many years before that I had walked the petition around our neighborhood endorsing it to change to a charter, thinking that it would enhance parent input, boy was I wrong! There are 1800+ students waiting to get in, so if you are unhappy, oh well! During a parent staff meeting we are given 2 minutes to voice our concerns, they have unlimited time. So they don't deal with frustrated parents they" Post OUR(board) decision" at a later date. Too many kids, not enough teachers. They are consumed by test scores, sacrificing understanding for rushing through material to get the info. in for the test. They have their mandatory summer school for all kids in their 9th grade year, meaning that your child does not get a rest between 8th and 9th! If your child does not go, no diploma!Legally, I  don't think they would win. I would not recommend sending your child there, try down the street.

I like the curriculum, but I'm not sure that I like that there are so many students, and not enough teaching staff.  And if I'm correct Granada Hills no longer offers the Magnet program, because it is now a Charter School.
