My children  have attended Loma Linda Academy starting with my oldest since 2000. They have met great friends, had many dedicated teachers, and been positively influenced. Our last child is attending the academy now and I too, like one of the other reviewers have mixed feelings looking back. Many of Loma Linda' s teachers are dedicated, but many of the better teachers have left. One of the best teachers who taught government and made it relevant was indeed forced out. Over the years the teachers have become quite mediocre. The reviewer dated, August 2010 stated LLA does not differentiate homework or class work to meet the needs of all students, so very, very true. Many of the teachers follow "old" style teaching  methods, instead of implementing new teaching strategies . The new leadership at the high school is like having no one lead at all. Loma Linda Academy at one time was a great school, however I'm not sure where their priorities are now. Student enrollment has fallen, teaching quality has fallen, and tuition keeps going up and up. At some point one must ask themselves is it worth it?

My children have attended Loma Linda Academy since Kindergarten and I'm sending my youngest off to college next year.  They have made great friends there and have been positively influence by dedicated teachers, yet I have mixed feelings as we are winding down there.  Despite LLA's claims to be "the best school" in the area, NO AP CLASSES ARE OFFERED.  I didn't realize how that handicapped my eldest until she was applying for the University of California system. (She did get in, however)  Few Honors classes are offered.  The non-audition choir Canticles is UC accredited, but the audition choir Pro Musica is not (because the director didn't bother to fill out the paperwork.)  The award winning Mock Trial program was abruptly halted when the teacher sponsor was forced out.  Despite the admittedly non-gang safety of the campus, drug and alcohol use does go on.  Tuition is high, yet is "tiered" (as in if you work for the SDA church or Loma Linda University Medical Center, up to 70% of your tuition may be waived) yet the parents not so affliated pay full price.  The recent (but unlamented) principal started a $45 million building program resulting in a beautiful campus, yet falling enrollment due to tuition increases.  All in all a good school...yet one in trouble.  Think twice before commiting to years of involvement.

Loma Linda is a great school, but there is always room for improvement. The books are outdated (some are 20 years old). Technology in the classroom is okay. No comparison test scores with similar schools like La Sierra Academy or Redlands Academy. How is the school doing in comparison to other private schools? An increase of professional development for teachers can help them implement new strategies that would assist students. I don't see differentiating homework or classwork for that matter to meet the needs of students (Gate or students at low levels). The teachers are very dedicated and they need to be paid a lot more for all the work they are required to do!
