School Mission Statement
Western Avenue School is making dramatic and consistent gains in API scores. The expected growth target for 2008-09 was 8 points. Our students' actual growth was 14 points. We have many funding sources that allow research based instructional practices and strategies to improve student achievement and increase testing scores. Our English Language Learners and Standard English Language Learners are provided standards based and data driven academic instruction daily. Our highly qualified teachers use research data such as MyData to cognitively plan lessons that are engaging and rigorously designed to meet the instructional needs of all students based on state standards.
We are offering our students a Western Bridge Program beginning in July, 2010 that will offer an innovative, research based academic experience designed for matriculating grade levels that will meet the needs of all students K-5. The program will provide a unique experience for our students who otherwise would not be offered any academic summer enrichment.
We house an excellent Parent Center designed for parent interaction. Workshops, seminars, and professional development are offered on an ongoing basis. The Parent Center will be open and in operation during the Western Bridge Program in July as well.
We are celebrating 100 years of providing academic excellence to the community April 12-16. Please join us in celebrating this important and excellent milestone for our school community.
