John Sinnott Elementary School Reviews

I am a former student. John Sinnott Elementary provided me with so much I still use. They recently reinstored the theatre program, which used to be there a long time ago but had been removed. I am glad they got this back since it is a wonderful opportunity. Thank you PTA! Sinnott taught me to appreciate serving my community through the encouragment of community service aka "ODS" and the GATE program was very beneficial to me as it challenged me to think in new ways. The teachers I had were wonderful and had incredible talent in teaching. As for me, I took my Sinnott education and went on to be accepted at a private high school, where I now attend, and am now applying for college.

I have 2 children who currently attend Sinnott.  I made the decision to transfer them from a private school  after seeing all Sinnott has to offer.  They have a great teaching staff-  we have been lucky to have caring, involved teachers every year.  Their math program is challenging as they have adopted a new text this year and by 6th grade, they are starting to write 3+ page research essays-  without using large fonts!
The PTA has a very impressive website and sponsors some great family oriented activities.  They have also introduced several new events - Family Fun Fair, walk-a-thon, and donation campaigns in lieu of the dreaded catalog sales.
The campus recently had a beautification event , installing grass and plants.  They have also installed solar panels which provide some shade in the parking lots and on the fields. Very progressive!

John Sinnott school is a great school to represent what a small size public school can do for the community. From the principle to the teachers they all work hard to make this school balance between the academics and free of development; from the anxious parents and don't cares.  There are so many ethics and new immigrants to impact the value of norm. And teachers are fighting with the high rise living cost and the thinner resources. Although there are always many place can so further improved.  But still we are so proud of our school district and those teachers who are doing everything to make this school getting better and better every year.  This kind or public school experience is unusual and precious.   We the parents and our children love this school and we are so proud of being here.

In general Sinnott is a good school. The administration is very focused on raising the API scores of all students. There is a GATE program from 4th to 6th grade. 6th grade GATE is in charge of the Broadcast program at Sinnott and learns all about journalism. They have an excellent reading incentive program for 3rd - 6th graders. They offer Science Camp for 6th graders. The PTA this year provided funds for an afterschool Homework Club open to all students. The PTA has also provided funding for art and drama programs. This year was the first time we have had 'open enrollment' in many years. The number of students is now 725. Most of the teachers are young. Sinnott has a new principal and assistant principal this year. This is the 3rd principal we have had since my son started Kindergarten.

"They have a newly built building which is absolutely gorgeous and very well laid out. In general the staff is caring, but firm. Only bad thing is that parent involvement is not encouraged. Yet!!"
