Oak Grove Institute
This school looks well organized and well run to the visitors and parents taking tours. In reality the school is much different. Many teachers are unqualified to teach the population they are dealing with. Parents should ask questions often and be actively involved in their child's education, often times what teacher claims to be doing and really is doing are polar opposites. Ask for work samples and listen to your child when hearing about their school day.

Erica: Please look elsewhere! The communication between parent and staff is horrible. I agree with the comment before. They left my child alone and I would have never known if she was nonverbal. Other things have happened as well, but I cannot share them here. Please write to me and I will be more than happy to share. If your child has autism, please keep lokking for a better school. This one is not it.

My interactions with the workers at Oak Grove were all good. The therapist really wanted my child to improve. The staff were there assisting him in everything from anger management to life choices. My child now is on track to graduate on time

Think twice before you place you kid here. Look hard at the facilities, the staff (if you can tell who is staff and who isn't), and the program. Facilities are run down badly, the staff look and act like the kids, and the program is designed for paying staffers- not for helping the kids. It's high priced hard core babysitting and they do their best to keep parents out. These kids are bored out of their minds, that's not what they need. Just visit the place and trust your gut. Keep looking and you'll find another placement.
