Washington Elementary School Reviews
Washington Elementary school is okay, butnothing special. They actually have a grass field to play on, which most San Diego schools don't seem to have - but it's full of dog poop because it is a public park when school is not in session. It has a nice building and the grounds are beautiful (flowers growing on the fences, no graffti, no trash). Supervision in the mornings is terrible.....pretty much 1 teacher and some teenage staff from the before school program. So any kid who walks, rides the bus or gets dropped off before 7:55 are basically unsupervised. The kids run all over the play areas like crazy and no one is really watching them. I always see kids hitting each other and wrestling around. The parking is horrible. There are about 10 parking spots in the lot... and no street parking available unless you want to try to park a few blocks away (it is downtown after all). The free 6 to 6 program was great last year and had about half the school enrolled in it, now they changed it from YMCA to SAY. My children complain that it is really boring and the staff ignore them. I know parents are upset that they don't have room for as many kids this year. I was lucky enough to get accepted. But if I could afford childcare I'd take them out of it since they hate it so much. There is no school nurse, no art, no music, no science, no nothing unless you want to pay for an extra program after school. The PE program is great, they get to run around a lot and play with different kids of equipment. It's not typical, standard PE like running laps and toe touches, they actually play sports. The teachers are ok, but are really unavailable to parents. Most of them lock their doors about 5 min after the bell rings and I haven't had much luck getting phone calls returned. It's not perfect but it's not the worst school out there. It's completely standard and basic.
