Dixie Canyon Avenue Elementary School Reviews
After being very happy with my older child at Dixie Canyon, I registered my little one in Kindergarten too for the year 2011/2012. I was expecting the same level of education that my other daughter had , but looks like economy even affected badly on this school too. My daughters have been at this school for 4 weeks now and they come back with 3 pages of homework at the end of the week that requires you to buy papers to let the child do their homework on. The kinder garten homework had only a sheet thats that the first page requires the child to write their name, second page is only a poem, and the 3rd sheet has a parent and child actiivities during the week like on Monday go out to look at the stars, on Tuesday bake a cake with your parent, on Tuesday go to the library and so on. I thought this will stop after the first week but when I asked the teacher today she said it's going to stay this way until the end of the year as we want the children to spend more time with their parents. That is fine but when my child started crying does not want to go to school in the morning and cry at night does not want to sleep so the morning does not come fast, I discovered that she hates school because she does not know which page the other student are on at the class and the teacher told her she can not help her anymore as she had helped her many times before. When i asked the teacher she said " Oh we finished all the alphabits, we finished all the numbers from 1 - 100 and we started reading" I was shocked as my daughter comes with no papers back home since she started, nothing and the homework does not show what they took during the week at class" She is a 4 year old girl and just turned 5 for God's sake. I wish they told us they want every parent to bring a stack of papers to print on rather than sacrificing the children's education's future. I expect the rank will drop at Dixie for this year. They are depending at the teacher 100% with a ratio of 1 to 24. while if they at least give a package with the child home it can be 1 - 1 ratio and helps the teacher and our children. Tried to speak with principle, she was tough and was not a good listener. I am very fustrated.
never wated to put my daughter in a public school but I heard about Dixie Canyon from another friend. I put my daughter there for the school is a walking distance from my living. after only few months I discovered how blessed i am to be so close to this school. My daughter started reading after only few months of Kinder Garten, She knew a lot of big words, knew how to spell, she knew a lot of maths... I say thank you to Dixie Canyon and Special Thanks to Mr. Chris Masserdjian who played the biggest role in making my daughter a good reader. The school is so strict about the dress codes and the children behaviors.. It feels like your child is in a private school. I do not remember one day my daughter came back with bad words or any bad behavior. I know that they fired a kinder garten student for being bad and I loved that in them
