Apperson Street Elementary School Reviews
I went to Apperson 4 years ago and graduated. I enjoyed bonding with teachers and fellow students. Large play yard which is a perfect size for grades 1-5. Kinder has separate play area. Kinder is divided in to separate groups with names such as blue birds and red birds. I thought that was a disappointment because there for kindergardeners can not bond with other s. Grades 1-5 have separate areas depending on what class they are in. Orchestra is a great experience for grades 3-5. Great office managment. The office staff love the kids and their jobs. Overall this school is a very good school.
Brand new parent here.
Principal - mixed. I know she cares about t he students but it seems she has to care about school liability more than an individual student's needs. More a sad state of LAUSD than her particular failing. Still...noted.
Office staff - PHENOMENAL! These women LOVE the students. All of them! They clearly love their jobs. Very well organized and they know just about every kid that walks in. No small feat for a student body as large as this.
Teachers - we've only experienced one, but she has amazed me with the depth of her interactions with students. Our kid needed a little extra input and this teacher not only rose to the occasion, she sailed way past that occasion. I have seen her speak with parents just before class and after and it's obvious she gives that same atttnetion tot he other kids. Especially great that this is the kinder teacher so that the kids can have such a positive association with school and school work which, as we all know, can descend into trudgery as the kids get older.
My only complaint would be lack of after school playground opportunities. It would be great if the kids could stay afterschool for 30-60 minutes just playing. It would give them an opportunity to blow off all the stress of a structured day. I get that this is a district wide problem, but it would be grerwat if our school could find a solution.
All in all, very happy with this school so far.
I went to Apperson 3 years ago and graduated. That school was cool because i learned alot of useful things that i needed for middle school. It was a good school that i went to. I miss it because i made alot of friends and the teachers were nice. thats what i liked mostly.
My Child just started Kinder at Apperson and to be honest, I am very disappointed with my first two days of school. Everything was very unorganized and I felt as though procedures are not being relayed. On the first day of school I witnessed a little girl who had been released from kindergarten with no adulut present. She was found by office staff somewhere crying. What a way to start your first day of school. On my second day of school, I was not informed that we would be lining up on the main playground. This caused for a little confusion in trying to find the line up area. This concerns me only because it shows my child that the parent isn't sure of the procedure. I think as a new parent, I should be more informed as to what gates will be open and where the meeting place is going to be. I also thought that a kindergartner should remain in class until the parent or other adult shows up. So far, I have not been impressed with this school. My only hope is that it gets better soon...
Do you mean other than it violating the City of Los Angeles water sprinkler ordinance? I saw your sprinklers on last Sunday at 6:00 pm. Shame on you! Not a good example for the community or teaching responsibility for the students.
