About This School

Excelsior Education Center is located in Victorville, CA and is one of 13 schools in Victor Valley Union High School District. It is a charter school that serves 1244 students in grades 5-12.

Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. See Excelsior Education Center's test results to learn more about school performance.

A school's Academic Performance Index (API) is a scale that ranges from 200 to 1000 and is calculated from the school's performance in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) Program. The state has set 800 as the API target for all schools to meet.

Excelsior Education Center had an API growth score of 767 in 2012. California uses the Academic Performance Index (API) to measure annual school performance and year-to-year improvement. Excelsior Education Center's 2012 base score was 759 and the school did meet its 2012 school-wide growth target.

In 2010, Excelsior Education Center had 30 students for every full-time equivalent teacher. The California average is 24 students per full-time equivalent teacher.

I transfered to Excelsior from Silverado my sophmore year and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I loved the atmosphere among the campus and the teachers ACTUALLY helped you if you had a question. I graduated this year and I miss being an Excelsior Eagle. The best school in the High Desert

I went to Excelsior my whole Junior and High School years. It is one of the best schools in Victorville. Excelsior lets you work at home or in the campus. Class are not mandatory for you to go, but I would take the classes on campus, because they are fun to take. I love the facilitators they are nice and kind, and willing to go through any lengths to help you. Sue White, Kacy Descalsota, And Marie Silva are very good at their jobs. The whole staff is good at the jobs. My advice would be to put your son or daughter at Excelsior, it will benefit them in the long run.

EEC has been a life saver for our children. It is not a perfect school, yet I always feel safe when they are on campus.  Our oldest started in 7th grade here and now will be graduating from EEC in June.  We are so proud  he is an intelligent and well rounded young man.  I believe this school had a big part of his education and well being.  In my opinion, his facilitator, Navid Mc Carthy not only was a teacher but a friend, an encouragement when needed, a beautiful spirit who not only was our son's teacher/facilitator/mentor but she became a part of our family and when we found out our son had a bone tumor and needed surgery, she and I couldn't even look at eachother without crying.  I know she would go to the end of the earth to fight for my children and that makes me so thankful.  I know that this school is all about the kids.  It is not anything else. They care about each and every student and bringing Mr. Ralph Baker on  board will bring wonderful changes for the better of our children.  I know him from VESD and he will do what he sets out to do for our children. Jarene Creason is also another one who is behind the scenes working to help better EEC. I am excited to see what the outcome will be. Our daughter also started 7th grade, now in 9th, and will also graduate with pride from this wonderful school. The youngest has a few years, but her day will come.  One more thing, I really believe this school is so sucessful due to the divere program. For example, some parents haven't any transportation, therefore they can take classes at home and test at school.  ONE thing I dislike is the testing center and the process.  I think there could be a better way, and I don't think children who can't drive should have their grades dropped due to abscenses.  This has happened to my daughter this year and that is not right.  What about online classes?... Is this a possibility?  Some teachers are unfriendly to students who aren't in class and drop their grade.  Next year our daughter will be at home and on campus by appointment only. We only have one car and our son will continue working and going to college fulltime, somehow. Somehow we always make it through, and these two years have been the toughest..healthwise, moneywise, but the Etter 5 are still alive!
Thank you , Mrs. Joanna Lynn Etter

Excelsior was a school that was innovative and engaging. It is now lacking in security and rigor. My son didn't read a single actual book in all of 9th, 10th or 11th grades. He was totally unprepared for the SAT's and college.
