Dos Rios Elementary School

Shayla Joyce: To tell you the truth I was terrified to put my children in this school when we moved to the area. The ratings weren't very good, the neighborhood was so-so (and not on the good side) and I'd heard some horrible stories. However, most of my fears were alleviated within the first week. The teachers my girls got and most the staff here are absolutly amazing. Parental involvement is highly encouraged so I was able to volunteer and see how things go "behind the scenes". They also have a fantastic family resource center and many other great attributes. The biggest red flag for me was the peer behavior, which I consider to be on the extreme side. So much so that there was a school news letter sent home reguarding the usage of the "F" word. As horrible as the behavior is,  this is a problem that stems from the home environment. I have had a few issues with my girls saying and doing things that reflect the poor behavior of thier peers but nothing that couldn't be handled with good parenting skills. So all in all, I think this is a great school for parents who are actively involved in their childrens lives.
