About This School

Beacon Country Day School offers an enriched educational experience that promotes educational excellence.  We respect the value of each individual, and develop the “whole child” by providing a warm, nurturing, positive, and supportive school environment and culture, in which students are challenged, build strong academic foundations, knowledge, and confidence for the 21st Century through a total learning experience.  BCDS provides opportunities to develop self-esteem, creativity, and the joy of learning which will maximize each child’s potential, encourage lifelong learning, strive for personal excellence and achieve educational excellence.

Beacon, a Blue Ribbon School selected by the Federal Department of Education offers an enriched and accelerated program for gifted students.  Our well articulated curricula includes math, reading and literature, spelling, handwriting, vocabulary development, science, social studies, music and drama, P.E., French, and higher level thinking skills.  Students work at instructional levels and receive a very personalized program. For example, a 7th grader who is ready for the first year of high school algebra will be placed at that level. We prepare an IEP each spring for the following year once end of year testing is complete.

Located on five acres, our grounds offer two large playgrounds, a soccer field, natural habitat for science studies and space.  Our technology is state of the art and children use the technology lab to build skills. Students access the science lab, music room, gym, and library.

We offer an extended day from 7:00 - 5:30 at no charge.

Beacon Country Day School Reviews

My son just graduated from college and still thanks me for Beacon!

By , a Parent on

My son recently graduaed from college with a Bio/Chem Engineering degree.  During the dinner after the graduation ceremony, he thanked his mother and I, once again, for sending him  to Beacon.  He had made the same statement after graduating from high school.  I asked, " Why after all these years did he repeat his "thanks" for Beacon?"  He simply related that not only had the academics given him a "step up" on his peers in high school, but it also surprised him to what extent Beacon had prepared him emotionaly for high school and college.
He claimed that before he attended high school that he was worried that he wouldn't be able to cope with the interactions he would have other kids.  He realized that Beacon had provided him with social and problem solving skills that he wasn't aware of before the start of high school.
As his father, I am embarassed to say that while I believed he was doing well at Beacon, I didn't appreciate the impact it had on him.  Our son initially started at a locally well-known private school.  I admit to being taken in by the prep school feel of the place.  By the third grade I saw my son's rising frustration with how the classes were taught,  so, we had him tested and accepted at Beacon.  I volunteered for many of the overnight field trips, like science camp, so I witnessed the depth to which the children would become so involved in what they were learning.  I saw him grow with the challenges of art and science fairs.  I saw his self confience blossom with public speaking and drama.  The curriculum at Beacon spoke for the caliber of their program and staff.  Unlike, many other schools the annual testing compared the students of Beacon with students at a national versus local level. With a smaller student population he learned how to appropriately interact with others during the dreaded middle school years.   I never felt a need to address bullying or for that matter any abuse while he was at school.  Finally, as a father the idea of my son missing participation in sports during this time were nonexistent.  He played competitive soccer roughly eight hours a week.  He didn't lack for athletic development.  Later, he would be approached by a college representative for football.  As a father I just wanted to tell everyone that our experience at Beacon was exceptional and that if I were to do it again-I wouldn't hesitate.  Do you and your child a favor and check it out.  It is well worth the effort.
