Dennison Elementary School Reviews
So far we are very pleased with the lottery process and we don't even know if we have a place yet. I am not sure what the other parents are talking about when they say the process has zero transparency. The number of students accepted for each grade level is on the web site and it is all lottery based with a sibling priority. We were told we would get our number by the 15th of February and on that day a letter came in the mail with our number. We have a good chance since the kindergarten class accepts 88 students, 20 for 2 part time classes and 24 for 2 full day classes. Then each parent starting with lottery number 1 is given 48 hours to respond with either yes or no and half or full day. Obviously this is a time consuming process and I feel it is handled very well. We have number 54 and are just waiting for our turn. Everyone wants their child to go to Dennison because it has such good ratings but part of applying at an optional school is waiting for your turn.
At one school we did choice enrollment at they told us we won't know until April even though this is not the guideline set by the district, then we got an email that said all first rounds automatically went to the top of the list for second round enrollment, that school is unorganized and when compared to Dennison, Dennison is very well organized when it comes to the lottery process.
Great school! The BEST! My child went to Dennison from Kinder to 4th grade. Great learning enviroment!
Good luck getting in though. Admissions are by lottery only. The lottery process has zero transparency. They don't tell you how many openings they have each year, how many siblings got in or how the number you are assigned fits in with any of these other numbers. At the very least they should post a website saying the next opening will go to number XX. Then you would know how far your number was from the current number. No that would be way too hard for weary administrators. I mean updating a number every week or so is hard work. Why would they want to lift a finger to let concerned parents know if they are even close to getting in to this incredibly awesome life changing incomparable elementary school.
Dennison is an excellent elementary school. Students receive a very high level of support to help them reach their full potential. There are many worthwhile after-school activities as well.
