About This School
Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. Academy of Dover Charter School Reviews
The previous review is 100% correct. But it
I sent my kid to the school for Kindergarten and 1st grade in 2013-2014. The first year there were problems such as no returned calls from teacher [content removed by Schoolfinder review team]. They also were never on top of things, sending home notes at the last minute and not having answers to basic questions. But my kids grades were good because they basically reviewed work she had done in preschool and home schooling I did on my own. So I sent her back. The next year, this past year, was a nightmare. The teacher was new and inexperienced. My kids grades dropped and she acted like she didn't care when I asked to meet to come up with a plan to get them up. [content removed by Schoolfinder review team]. I had to rely on my homeschooling plan to try and get her grades up. They came up a little, only because of me. The school was no help at all. Seems like they are just there to get paid. Don't waste your and your kids time sending themselves here. Next year will be better at a new school. Anywhere is better than AOD.
No focus on being positive
I have not been able to get the teacher to communicate about things going on with child or answering messages even to ask about last day of school at Academy of Dover Charter School. The school calendar tells me nothing. They can't even post times for events such as graduation. There is no positive reinforcement for my child.
Very bad school
The Principal talked up the school like it was really great. I found out later it was the worst.
Difficult Administration and lazy teachers. Bad food. Cheap playground.
The Principal and Vice Principal are very unprofessional and inconsiderate to parents. They think the world revolves around them and treat parents like trash. If you complain or are critical of the school they encourage you to find your child a new school. The teachers don't communicate well with parents. They don't return calls or emails. If you ask questions about school work they just ignore it. If you complain the Principal won't take it seriously and turns it into a personal matter and a big game. The playground is tiny and has one piece of equipment and 5 swings for the whole school. The school lunch is terrible. If you're looking for a charter school go to Campus Community or stick with Public schooling. They seem more worried about their jobs and keeping a high rating than education and parent communication. There is hardly any diversity. Almost all the kids are Black. I have noticed several signs of racism. By any means don't send you child to this school.
