D J. Kaplan: I taught at this school in the early 80's before moving to FL and teaching. I cared very much for my young students and appreciated the fact that they moved frequently. We celebrated the different cultures! The Supervisor of Elem. Ed., Dr. Cookie Bolig, frequently visited the class to observe, encourage, and offer her assistance in doing special projects in the classroom. Mr. Knarr, Principal was very supportive and visited classroom often to observe.

Kim: This school is unwelcoming. It's on the military base so kids come and go throughout the year. Upon arrival in November of 2010, I asked to meet the teachers and was told they couldnt do that. They expected me to drop my kids off, first day in a line outside and they would find their own class. Keep in mind my kids were in Kindergarten, 2nd, 4th and 5th. Who drops off their kids in a line without ever being given an opportunity to meet a teacher? I showed up first day and practically had to force myself in to the classrooms to at least have a face for each teacher. I was followed around by the assistant principal the entire time like some sort of criminal. We have been in the school for a year now and little has changed. You are not aloud to walk students to their classrooms (except the first day of school each year - not the students first day, the schools first day). The principal and vice principal will make excuses as if they are protecting the teachers - from what I am not sure?. They push writing so much here that math skills in my kids are diminishing. Even math involves writing (ex. why does 2+2=4). They have a test here (DCAS) and last year my 4th and 5th grader's scores actually went down throughout the year. Very disappointed. I am looking into school choice now and possibly private school. I have had my kids in the DOD's schools overseas and in Texas, both were incredible schools. This one is not. If you have a choice I would look elsewhere.
