As a lifer, we will leave, not finishing middle school, due to the intolerable bulling and mob environment. My child with high IQ, was happy and excel academically. Sadly, there are aggressive predators, kids who honed in on kids that are less popular. The attacks are cleverly hidden and not obvious. The problem is TIS's policy. The staff are not willing to admit there is a huge issue. Incidences are covered up and blamed the victims. When a child retaliates, instead of investigating deeper into what lead to the event, the victim was punished for the involvement. Staff's inaction gave future blessings to the predators. We know others have left before due to same issues. TIS don't promote acceptance of differences. Fighting bullying openly is already a difficult task, but fighting closet bullies without the support of the staff is impossible to survive. TIS environment will wilt the child to sickness until too late for the parents to realize. STEM or no STEM, watch out for the deceptions. Bullying and mob behavior are learned behavior, and at TIS it is looked the other way. Read previous comments and see the similar repeated issues by other families. Don't make a regrettable choice.

Poor leadership..bad environment!

This used to be a well respected school.  They have had declining enrollment, unhappy parents, poor quality education issues, and a problem with bullying.
The school lost so many students they are seeking a tenant for ONE THIRD of the school!  The administrators are unresponsive to problems within the school, they refuse to handle bullying issues, especially when the bully is a staff member's child..imagine that!
It is important to note the quality of education provided is not up to the standards of the public school system.  After 5 years of 'education' at Indy, and being ranked at the highest level,,, my child was not in the top group in public school.  My child was not challenged at independence!  (This child has an IQ above 150.)
The school has way too many administrative people, and they are always asking parents to donate more and more money.  Tuition is around 14 k a year, but that is not enough to keep them afloat.  They have lowered the standards for admission.
Parents beware!!

As a parent who recently pulled both of my children out of this school, I would advise any parent considering this school to choose a better option, and there are many.  The school and its administrators is rigid to the point where it is detrimental to the development of its students, and it has badly damaged the school's reputation and quality over the past 5-7 years. I have noticed that many students who hqave creative tendencies are stifled in favor of an old-world rote memorization style of education.  I have continually noticed that students who require even a modicum of extra help (and, by extension, their families) are treated poorly by the teachers and the administration.  I turned a blind eye to this for years because my children seemed relatively happy at the school, but I can no longer do so as my children have noticed the school's tendencies as well. The school is in the middle of a steep decline, and I do not see the trend turning around anytime soon with the school's current leadership.  It is currently only held afloat by poaching the best students from local public schools and placing them into Independence's Upper School.  Unfortunately, that will not last, and I had to withdraw my children and place them ina better environment.
