About This School

Delaware Military Academy is located in Wilmington, DE and is in Charter-79 School District. It is a charter school that serves 556 students in grades 9-12.

Charter schools are public schools, but differ from traditional public schools in that they are independent and are operated by educators, parents, community leaders, educational entrepreneurs, or others. Funding for charter schools is based on designated local or state educational organizations. Those organizations are responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality and effectiveness of education, but permit the schools to operate outside of the traditional public school education system. See Delaware Military Academy's test results to learn more about school performance.

DMA provides a desirable structured, but not overly structured environment.   New Castle County's public high schools are sadly just very poor overall, aside from the private schools and other charter schools.  No I'm not talking down on public schools in general-- I'm just saying schools such as Dickinson, McKean, Newark, and others are in serious need of restructuring and that's only according to standardized test scores, serious drop in enrollment, and various stories that are commonly heard about how teachers basically give students As without challenging's sad how we just can't go to our local high schools like our parents' generation did--- but anyway, DMA was a great alternative for me, and even if the public schools were decent, I would still attend DMA if I had to do it over again.  I can honestly admit that I was taught the importance and value of leadership which will help me down the road in various encounters of my life. The education there is challenging and various honors and AP classes are being added as options more and more each year.  Any issues with students or teachers are addressed pretty quickly.  Teachers are "rehired" on a yearly basis and there is a waiting list for each faculty position -at least that's what I've heard.  This sense of competition ensures that all teachers are very qualified.  They really do go above and beyond to help students succeed. The future of DMA looks very promising as well.  Not only are more academic choices being offered, but the sports and clubs are getting more competitive and noteworthy.  As an alumni, I look forward to what DMA will be like in a decade..I'm sure it will continue to be at the top of Delaware's notable high schools. Last thoughts-- anyone who doesn't succeed at DMA, is not putting in their best effort- and no that doesn't mean we will all get straight As, but it does mean that your full potential can be achieved only if it is genuinely desired... -"It is what you make it" - that goes for education too...

This is a JROTC - Navy school; therefore, it is very structured.  The staff stresses discipline and respect for teachers and peers alike.  The structure provides a framework in which students can learn without a lot of disorder or distraction, which is so prevalent in our public schools.  There is a "zero tolerance" policy for drugs as it is considered a privilege to attend this school.   The education your child will receive at DMA, in order to prepare them for college, is one of the best in the state of Delaware.
