Fast Growing School!

By a Teacher on

EastSide has gone through a great transformation in the past few years and has become one of the fastest growing schools in the state. The students, staff and community are engaged in the learning environment at EastSide and I am proud to be a part of the progress taking place at the school.

This is a wonderful opportunity for kids living on the East Side of Wilmington.

EastSide Charter has outstanding leadership equally focused on developing its students and staff. Dr. Lamont Browne, Head of School, has championed the development of an alternative teacher evaluation system that focuses on coaching and mentoring. The teachers and staff are dedicated, warm and caring. They love to work there. That results in a wonderful learning environment for the kids. Every child has an individual success plan for the year and the teachers are committed to seeing that they all achieve it. The School has outstanding, attractive and inviting  facilities with a gymnasium, cafeteria, auditorium and 3+ acres of playing and recreation fields. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids living on the East Side of Wilmington.

This is was my first year with my children attending Eastside Charter school and with the new head of school, Dr. Lamont Browne. Our two sons, came from a  public school and were doing really well there but we felt like our kids weren't being challenged enough. In the beginning of the first marking period our boys were struggling because they weren't used to being challenged and pushed. But the teachers were right there to help. There were a few nights when we were on the phone talking to the Math teacher walking us though the assignment. Dr. Browne and the whole staff are very dedicated to helping the students be successful and go beyond. I have 5 sons and I have never seen a staff that are so devoted to their students and generally care about them. Dr. Browne has high expectations for his staff and students to made sure our kids are learning. And they are doing just that. Both my boys have made Distinguished Honor Roll for 1,2,3,and 4 marking period. And it's not just my kids, plenty of students made honor roll. At the end of the year mostly all students were on grade level and above. For proof just look at the students State test scores. Eastside has made great improvements from last year. Parent involvement in school and at home and working with the teachers is key to insuring your child's academic success. So I proudly endorse and encourage you to give Eastside Charter school a try if you would like a dedicated teaching staff and a challenging learning environment for your child. I'm so glad we did !!!

This school seems to survive by making hollow promises and courting parents until after the September 30th cut off for funding.  After this date it is almost impossible to remove your child from a charter.  Many of the students at this school lag two or three grades behind their peers in other schools.  Yet they receive an education that is both  inconsistent and unstable.  This school year has been nothing but a series of trail runs.  My daughter is extremely unhappy and no longer enjoys going to school.  She had made so much progress last year and formed a bond with the staff.  However...this year has brought a turn over of more than 70% of the teaching staff.  The board appears to think the solution rides in the new leader, Dr. Lamont Browne, but fail to exercise "good watch" over him.  I will not send my child to this school next year and hope other parents do their homework before enrolling.

I went to this school for all of middle school. When i say that this school "helped me" it did. East Side Charter school is not the best school, but it is one school i can say that holds your hand threw hard times. I go to Wilmington Friends School now for high school because of this school. Tell you the truth, most students that go there are African Americans with low income and live with single parents. But i have never in my life seen teachers that help the students as they have done over the years. Teachers that will become a parent for the children. But I think you should ask student that don't get in trouble everyday how they feel about the school.

Wow!! This school is the worst. The class rooms are crowded and the teachers this year think they are teaching at a military academy. The worst thing is that they have this misconception that all African American kids are low income and live with single parent. I wanted to take my child out but was unable since he/she started the school year already. I can't wait til the end of the year.

i think that school is the best school becase it has moore learning and more kids in it
