Henry S. West Laboratory School

West Lab is a wonderful small school with an incredible music and art program. Students can enroll on a PTO sponsored violin program which is available to students in Kinder through Third grade for a small fee; once they reach fourth grade they can sign up to be on one of the two after-school programs taught by the University of Miami School of Music - Music Education program. They can be in a String Orchestra, or a Wind/Percussion Band. The PTO also sponsors after school music ensembles such as the Keyboard Club which teaches students how to play the piano (four or five students per class) also for a small fee.
The general music teacher also works individually with students in grades 5 and 6 to get them prepared for Middle School Music Magnet Programs. Students also perform A LOT!!! They have anywhere from three to five programs a year, and they have even done a recording school-wide where every child participated.
The Art program is also unbelievable! The art teacher is extremely talented and dedicated. All students participate in many art shows and competitions, often receiving first prize.
All teachers and staff members are like family. Since it's a small school, everyone knows each other and children feel safe. Classroom teachers are extremely dedicated and talented.
West Lab is a WONDERFUL school!!!
