I am pleased with the overall learner profile/education my children receive however, I am disappointed that my children had to "apply" for acceptance to be "enrolled" in a preliminary IB Program which was to be contained within the school. My children are mainstreamed with the entire school which would not be a problem if I had not been told that the IB Program was an independent program within the school and new construction would allow for an Elementary School AND a separate IB Program. Now my children who have an IEP for "gifted" are no longer in "gifted" classes which leaves me to wonder about my child who has an IEP for "specified learning disabilities". Children can not possibly receive the "best" education for "them" if they are not in the appropriate environment. You can't expect the higher level thinkers to raise the bar for the struggling learners. It has never worked. It is not the responsibility of the "gifted" children to teach/tutor classmates. In my humble opinion, administration should have had a parent meeting with the parents of the students enrolled in the IB Program to explain the changes. With all of that being said I  would still highly recommend the school.

: Thacker Elemenary School is and has always been a very good school for learning and for excellent teachers.  When we attended the meeting  2 years ago,  the chldren and parents were promised that the new building  would be for the brand new IB classes.  our children went to portables, and then into the new school.   What happens this year:  the same students plus other are back in portables, and then when the renovations are complete will go into the RENOVATED ROOMS.  NOT THE CLASSES THAT THEY WERE PROMISED.   Other children  3 from each grade from each school in Osceola could appy for the openings.  disappointed yes.  not one of the parents that i know of has been advised that circumstances beyond the control of the school has changed.  we at least deserved something other than here it is this is what you get.  I have had children in Thacker for 35 years,   on and off.
